Oral Hygiene/Cleaning in Whitby
The Canadian Dental Association recommends regular preventive dental appointments to give your child the best defence against tooth decay. For most children this means they should see their dentist for a cleaning and exam at least every six months.
Deep cleaning by a dental hygienist is the best way to remove plaque and tartar build-up from your child’s teeth. Tartar can’t be removed by regular brushing and flossing so it needs to be removed with special tools. Your child’s hygiene appointment may also include fluoride treatment to protect your child’s teeth from cavities.
Children’s molars are especially vulnerable to decay from plaque and food buildup. To protect your child’s teeth, we apply a dental sealant that covers the pits and fissures in your child’s molars, “sealing out” plaque and food particles.
A thorough examination by your child’s dentist is the best way to detect the first signs of decay or gum infections. We’ll also check your child for early indications of oral cancer, and we may take X-ray images to check the health of your child’s mouth above the gumline.
