One of the most important ways to maintain good oral health is by brushing your teeth. There are a lot of toothpastesout there and we are often asked which one is the best. While we don't recommend a particular brand, we do recommend toothpastes that contain fluoride, a naturally occurring element. Research has demonstrated that using small amounts of fluorids on a regular basis helps to prevent tooth decay by more than 50%.
While we recommend the use of fluoridated toothpaste, we caution parents of its use. If your child is not able to spit, then consider using "training toothpaste" (fluoride-free toothpaste). Once your child is able to spit, use a pea size amount on their tooth brusth. When it comes to fluoride, MORE is NOT better. Rest assure that while you want your child to spit out the toothpaste, swallowing the pea size amount of fluoride will not harm your child's health.
